Canopy Field Bed American c 1820

Category
American Furniture
Condition
Good
Description

This is a canopy bed or field bed. Thought to be of Massachusetts origin from Salem, Ipswich, or Portsmouth NH possisbly, from early 19th century. Headboard and footboard are maple, rails are oak, posts are part maple part mahogany. All 4 finials are intact. Rosettes are not all intact. Canopy frame is there, but had been repaired. Mattress is held be large metal brackets. There are holes in the frame indicating it may have been a rope bed.

As I undertsand it, this is a field bed made to be moved easily. As such, the places where the rails and boards meet are marked with matching Roman numerals, which are believed to be original.

The size is between twin and full.

The bed "key" is marked by the Israel Sack gallery, formerly of NYC, which may have sold the bed at some point.

I also have a mattress/box spring made for this custom size, and a canopy.

I have a friend that collect paintings and she told me that the painting is by Alfred Arthur Brunel de Neuville an artist from Paris (1851 - 1941)but she is not an appraiser and I am not sure. I reserched on the internet and found a very similar painting from him. The only diferent is that it is 17" by 21" and only it has three cats and my painting has four cats. I incuded a photo for comparison (#5). Thank you for any help.

1920's Carryola Master Phonograph with 15 albums

Category
Music and Music Instruments
Condition
Good
Description

This was my Great Grandmothers. I have owned it since 1997 after she was moved into a nursing home. I know she and my great grandfather had obtained/purchased it around the depression time. She passed in 2002 at age 102. I have several of her things, but this is something I have not been able to get a rough guess as to what it might be worth. I have found nothing similiar to it on Ebay, internet, etc. I have contacted the Dallas Antique Auction Gallery and she was unable to provide any information due to not having anything comparable to base an appraisal from. My mother saw an Edison on Antiques Roadshow appraise for $5000 to $8000. Those are fairly abundant and I have found several. This Carryola on the otherhand has been an elusive find. It is far from mint condition, but does still work and play records. It does show signs of its age and wear, but is a great collectable. I have pictures, but the player was dusty when we took them. I have not had it professionally cleaned nor have I cleaned it in fear of damaging it. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any information about the phonograph. Thank you Travis
