This picture "Kids Sledding on a Hill" by H. Hargrove was purchased at a library auction. It was purchased by the library from Lifetime Galleries, Inc. in Merrillville, IN. and displayed at the library prior to sale. I do not know the purchase date or the date that the picture was made by the artist. I believe that this is a limited edition silkscreen - it has #5 listed on the back of the frame. It measures 20 x 24. I have 4 other pictures by this artist with different themes (Blacksmith, Winter scene, etc.) from the same source.
When I saw this piece I fell in love with the delicate colors and the beautiful handpainted birds. The painting depicts a water scene with plants and birds.
Light shines through the porcelain. It has a bamboo shaped handle that used to have gold overglaze. There is a lot of nice gold on rim.
The only makers marks are the knaji in the photo. It has a crack visible in the photo of the single bird, runs from lip through the birds tail.
There are 2 types of birds, I believe the 2 black winged ones are kingfishers, would like to know what the larger single bird is.
Handcarved in (bees?) wax, the item is very detailed and depicts a people and a A frame home. Back has the Johanna Kerzen label and says Made in Germany.
Thank you for your time and hope someone can help as I cannot find any information on this item. . ~~Jackie
