Antique Hand Carved Wooden Dowry Box 1700's ?

I am not quite sure what this is, but I think it is a dowry box from the 1700's or early 1800's ? It appears to be handcarved and I am not sure either what the wood type is. I can't find anything thing like it except for a dowry box. 

If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know !
