History
Carl Folke Sahlin was born in Sweden and came to the U.S.A in 1903 at the age of 19. He soon settled in Miami, and started painting. He eventually became the only Miami member of the American Water color society. His main interests were the people of different countries and their costumes and dances.first he traveled in Central and South America and the Caribbean Islands and later circled the world several time, capturing in vivid color the people of Asia, Africa and the Orient. Groups of his paintings were sent all over the world for exhibition, and a series of paintings of the Florida Seminoles are on permanent exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington.

The Historical Museum of Philadelphia owns some of his work and on one of his visits to Taiwan he was invited by Chiang Kai Sheck and found some of his paintings in his possession.

He strikingly depicts the natives in doing their daily chores and also shows them many times in their particular national or regional costume.

Most of his paintings are full of people in motion, and situations that he witnessed, and recorded the mood in the spur of the moment. He died tragically in Miami in 1976 at the age of 91 and left the world a rich legacy of artistic and historical value.
