Recently bought this mahogamy rocking chair (or glider) at auction. There is no name on it. Two metal hinges that make it glide underneath the seat have patent dates of May 23 1876. I cannot locate the patent either on that date. The boards that stretch betwen the hinges underneath the seat are stamped "5". I listed this on collectors weekly and have searched the internet for similar rockers with no luck.
The curved wood ont he back and seat is a solid piece and it is drilled. There is an outline of a 5 pointed star on the seat. It is small chair. I am just over 5'2" and it fits me perfectly. It has wheels on front legs.
Hoping to discover the story behind this unique rocker and what it might be worth! Thanks in advance for any help. Jeanne
