Antique Safe

By MHershberger, 3 April, 2014
Description

Can anyone tell me anything about this safe?  It belonged to my grandfather, who I assume purchased it new, since his initials are on it.  It passed to my father in 1955, and to my brother in the 1970's.

The interior has a tall compartment on the right side, while the left is divided into four smaller compartments.  Of the four, the top one has a locked door, the second is an open slot, the third is a drawer, and the bottom is an open slot.

Because of its weight and the fact that there are items stored on top of it, I have no way of getting to the back to look for further markings at this time.  I am looking for a general idea of its value.

Re: Antique Safe

From the look of it, it is your basic late 19th to early 20th Century safe. It's tricky putting a value on them because they are hard to sell, at auction they sometimes go for scrap value, their weight being a big issue. At retail we see safes like this one listed at about $800.00.
