This was my grandfather's sofa but I don't know any of it's history. It is a dark wood, has slightly rolled arms, carvings on the back top side. It has been reupholstered at least once.

You have what appears to be a beautiful Victorian era sofa on trolly wheels. Obviously, it has been reuhpostered as you suggest. Originally, your sofa most likely was upholstered in red velvet and was the centerpiece of a Victorian parlor in the late 1800's. The wood appears to be flame mahogany with a rich patina.The original horsehair padding was probably replaced with more modern materials. Your grandfather might have inherited the sofa from the generation before him. What a lovely piece you have. If the sofa is in the well-cared for condition the photo indicates, my best guess at its value would be $900-$1200 or more if it's ever reupholstered in a rich period red velvet.
