Antique Stoneware? HELP! Can't identify markings!

Description

Hello, I have had this Crock/ storage jar forever and over the past few years spent countless hours on the internet and looking through books and just cannot identify the markings. I posted it on a pottery site for collectors/experts and even on there no one was able to help me. Someone thought it might be Galena, and I researched that but couldn't find anything that looks like this. I was just told that it was possibly worth a lot of money and up until now it wasn't really a priority to know. But due to recent events I need to identify it so that I can sell it if it's valuable enough. I have a couple of other things going to be posting that I don't really have a clear idea on the value most of them able to find in a book or somewhere but these few items have just been very difficult. I was recently in New Orleans and had someone look at this who deals in antiques and he seemed to think that the two engraved in it meant that it was used to store olives? I have no idea I assume that the two meant 2 gallons but I know nothing about pottery! I would so much appreciate any advice or insight and thank you in advance should you take the time to help me out I look forward to checking this site out a little bit more, so far it looks amazing but I've spent all of my time trying to post this and get the pictures on here and haven't had a chance to look around!

History
My father had a hunting camp deep in Alabama woods, He eventually bought a country store, the only one within about 50 miles and became friendly with the people scattered throughout the woods, most still living in shacks with seperate kitchens, dirt floors, and cooking on real wood burning stoves! This was mid 80's so these people and there ancestors had lived there forever so I've always assumed that it came from there because he had several pieces. The more I research the more I realize it could have originated anywhere, but they would trade him for groceries and different things so he had several of these at one time not identical to this, different pieces and I still have some smaller ones.
