Description

This item is 2 pieces bound a soft cord.

They are both circular on what seems a ply wood.

The front piece is embossed- I suspect  with Beaten Brass- with an image of a Daffodil and with initials on the bottom RHSide.

It has delicate screws to hold the Brass Plaque on the Timber Base.

It has only ONE Brass Circular Image on the Front.

The timber is 310mm Diameter while the brass is 255mm Diameter.

The timber is -I stained and sealed.

My thoughts are it is late 19C and from Asia/China.

I am unsure if it is an Adornement of the Household or has a specific function.

The daffodil is the symbol of Chinese New Year, not just as a sign of new life as in western culture but more as bringer of positivity and good fortune. Given that this object seems to have a shut-open, close-display type ability and cords for hanging, it is possible it is kept safely in a drawer or whatever and then produced and hung in the house each Chinese New Year - in the same way as we might a Christmas decoration.
