This is a Victorian piece dating from the 1870's, and appears to be walnut. Most of these were made in the smaller furniture factories that began to appear in the 1840's along the eastern seaboard of the USA and Southern Ontario, Canada. Values peaked during the late 1980's, but have been in decline since the 1990's, currently we'd retail one like this in good shape in the $450.00- $600.00 range.
