under Edward Kasper original 1969

described as 'Three dimensional original signed piece is a unique art painted on the hood of a race car. Kasper adopted this tecnique from Art Director Richard Gangel, who invented a process in which he coated sheets of anodized aluminum with acrylic lacquers. This impress Kasper, who adapted it when Gangel assigned him to illustrate an article on hydroplane racer Bill Muncey"

I've sent off info for a few appraisals, but haven't heard back yet and curious to know it's present day value. $5500 it sold for in '69 is 36K by the inflation calculator. Artist died in 1997. please let me know what you think! Thanks.

This is an original piece of art painted and signed by famous American artist-photographer Edward Kasper. This piece is a painting Sports Illustrated commissioned the late Edward Kasper to create in 1969. Kasper was one of Sports Illustrated's famous photographer/artist in the'60's and '70's.

This three dimensional original signed piece is a unique art painted on the hood of a race car. Kasper adopted this technique from Art Director Richard Gangel, who invented a process in which he coated sheets of anodized aluminum with acrylic lacquers. Gangel developed a way to superimpose photos and drawings on aluminum-based silk screens. The process impressed Artist Edward Kasper, who adapted it when Gangel assigned him to illustrate an article on hydroplane racer Bill Muncey (SI, May 14).

Commissioned for article ’Passion's Wheels’ - Sports Illustrated - October 20, 1969
The American male's craving to hand mama a stopwatch and go out and burn up some rubber in a sports car, first noted as a curiosity in the late 1940s, has increased mightily since. In the Sports Car Club of America alone there are 4,000 weekend Fangios taking a run at regional championships. Artist Ed Kasper has inspected these speed merchants, and he salutes cars and people in a novel medium: oils on junk. From an auto graveyard he got pieces of steel that he torch-cut to represent the 'trueness and ugliness' of a glossy sport's basic materials and to suggest the love it takes to give them beauty.
