Handmade SOS bowl from a ship?

Description

Another item found at Canary Wharf, London, during its construction (please see my other post).

This one is far more mysterious – it has no identifiable text except for something small on the inside of the bowl. My interpretation of this text is that it reads

S O S

M. S. R.

No

If I’m right about the SOS part (which is hidden in the waves at the top of the design, but it still very clear), then this could be quite an interesting item.

I’d love some help appraising this and figuring out which ship – if any – this is from. Thanks.
