The first U.S. immigrant landed on Ellis Island January 1, 1892 from Ireland. Wonder if this is a key to America like a souvenir item?

I was thinking the same thing but I can't find any information on this. I've done so many searches on the internet and nothing. I'm at a loss of the significance of this key but I am so curious to find out. ;o)

I sent the Ellis Island Museum an email yesterday with the picture so we will see what they say...I will keep you all posted and let you know the results of this mystery...thanks so much for your input. Patty

THIS IS THE RESPONSE I GOT...... :O( The search is still on.....would love to know what this was from??????? August 25, 2009 Dear Ms. Mariano: We received your email and your request for information regarding a key with the inscription "Happy New Year 1892." Besides the date on the key, there appears to be no other direct relationship between the key and the opening of Ellis Island. You you have any questions, you may email me or write to me at the address below. Thank you for your interest in the Statue of Liberty NM and Ellis Island. Sincerely, Geraldine Santoro Curator of Collections Statue of Liberty NM Liberty Island New York, NY 10004
