"Hastings" Italian Walnut Cabinet

By kb5089, 24 September, 2008
Description

This cabinet was bought for me by my mother to serve as a media cabinet.  Whoever had it before painted over the gorgeous wood (painted it black!) and the pictures below are after I had stripped the paint off.  There is a picture below that shows what the original finish was, the painters didn't paint everywhere.  I intend to simply put a clearcoat over the wood, no staining.

There is a pull-out shelf just below the two outward swinging doors on the top portion of the cabinet.  These doors are on double hinges.  The single door on the bottom portion opens downward and has a lock.  There are holes in the back and I do not know if they are original.  The handles are not original; when I got the cabinet there was a single wooden knob.  Whose to say what happened to the other ones.

A faded, peeling and cracking tag on the back of the cabinet says "Hastin", there is a piece missing there, I can only assume it should read "Hasting" or "Hastings" Tag also as the number "502" and "Ital. Walnut"
