Help identifying small box

By masueuk, 22 January, 2011
Description

I am hoping someone can help with this little box.  The lid is the colour of pewter or possibly spelter.  The two birds are in relief, the inside of the box lid is pushed out but the other details seem to be cast somehow.  The edges are covered in a millegrain effect for the background then foliage seems to be cast,  It is really attractive.  The base of the box is coppered as is the interior.  The edges of the base of the box are mostly coppered.  The rim of the top is partly coppered.  On the base there is a couple of places where the copper is missing and it appears to be very dark metal with tiny holes, almost like volcanic rock does.  We are keen to find out as much as we can as it is such a lovely little thing.  At first glance it doesnt look much but the closer we look the better it looks.

Re: Help identifying small box

Hello Masueuk,

From what you wrote I can tell that this box is full of details and is also lacking engraving or serial numbers and or brand or maker.

And this makes a lot of diffrence, because from this type of clues information can be available to us for the purpose of identifying the source of frabication.

Now, the molded figures on the lid and sides of the box  can problably tell us a little about the box.

I don't know everything, just like every expert out there that concentrates on one industry or two.

But try pawn shop's that sell antiques and look for similar item's and look for clues that may I.D. your item.

History is written once and is the item's holder to search for the written story.

Best of luck on your search,

If I was helpfull please put the word out.
