This is a Rambouillet reproduction of The Lady and the Unicorn. This particular tapestry is "Taste". It was made in France and hand woven. I was told by the owner that "Taste" is sought after because of the monkey at the lady's feet. Measurements are 64.5" wide x 54.5" tall.
I purchased this from the original owner who purchased it around 1970. He said a decorator acquired it for him then and he paid $1,000 for it. He said he always had it hanging (not in storage) and had it professionally cleaned.
The label is attached on the back. It is completely in French. It is marked 8 out of 83 pieces made. It also includes the weaver's name- A. Demay (Andre Demay) and the engraver's name- G. Boitard (Georges Boitard).
