This 15" x 11" platter is part of a set that I inherited from my mother. She always called it part of the "Japanese tea set," and believed it was original with the set. I've included a picture of the set as well as the platter, alone. The dishes seem to be bone china; but, the platter is not as delicate. It's ceramic, I think (the colour of the ceramic is white on the back). It feels rough on the back. On the underside of the platter border is a small heartshaped (the heart is rounded at the bottom, not pointed) solid gold symbol. That's the only marking. I think that's real gold guilding all around the border, as well as framing each unique motif, and interwoven into each motif's scene. The pink blossoms have raised centers, as well as the white blossoms on the other tree. The woman's kimono belt is raised also.
