Mid Century Lee Reynolds Abstract Painting

Profile picture for user keldsena
By keldsena, 6 December, 2011
Description

When I bought the painting I got a good deal on it because it was covered in mold (which I was able to remove fairly easily with a Q-tip and a white vinegar solution so it's mostly gone.) There is also a small (2 inch) tear in the canvas on the bottom right side. It's signed Lee Reynolds on the front and there is a number 685 written on the back of the canvas. I love this painting, so any information that someone might have on it is just a bonus. Thanks!

Re: Mid Century Lee Reynolds Abstract Painting

UPDATE: After a little bit of research on the interwebs I now know that these "Lee Reynolds" signed paintings were mass produced by other artists in what appears to be some sort of artist sweatshop (Van Guard studios). Apparently the number 685 on the back of mine refers to the artist who actually painted it. Just thought I'd share because it seems like there are a lot of people out there who have these Lee Reynolds/Lee Burr signed paintings and want to know the history. I still think mine is cool :-)
