Re: Oil Painting

Ok, I'm new here, but I've been working in the antiques business for ten years.  I joined up to brush up on appraisals and see a wide variety of items.  That being said, I did find an auction result for what appears to be your exact painting -

Lot 8: C. JEFFARES - 24in x 20in oil on canvas - pipe smoking bearded sea captain at the wheel - signed

Unfortunately, there is no sale price.  This was sold in the UK in 2003 here: Shanklin Auction Rooms.  In addition, seeing as there are two, I would suggest that your item may in fact be a giclee, or similar high-end copy, of an original.  As such, I would put the insurance value as $75.00 to replace with like kind/quality and an auction value of about half that.  Hope this helps.
