Description

This is a thin blade and handle hatchet made out of Iron, not really sure what type of metal it is.  Looks to be a bone or antler handle.  It has  the words othello solingen on one side below a picture of a head and the other side has writing also but I can only make out a few letters due to the rust on it.  I didn't want to rub or clean thinking I might hurt it more.

Category Metalware
Medium Iron, Bone
Distinguishing marks Othello Solingen

Size and dimensions of this item 10.5" long, Blade extends 4.25"

History I know nothing about this item. I was hunting in the mountains by Stone Cellar Colorado and found this laying in the dirt.

It's German and It's not as old as it looks, similar hatchets are still in production. I had one identical to it, purchased new in the 1960's, what you are looking at is some boyscouts hatchet, lost baout 1964 ;~)
