History
thet are watercolors by the illustrator for the Winniw the Pooh Books, they are dated before Disney acquired the rights to winnie the pooh. There are 5 watercolors in the original box, which was copyrighted by E.P Dutton & Co. in 1957
If you box has the price on it of $6.95 and identified as Pooh his Art Galley on the side of the box, it is a limited edition. The limited edition was the first 10 issued collection in this series. The press was then altered removing the label on the side of the box to reduce cost, and included the following caption on the back of the box
.....In 1957, E.P. Dutton, Mr. Milnes's American Publishers, commissioned Mr. Shepard to paint the colored pictures that appear in this portfolio. Many readers of "The World of Pooh and The World of Christopher Robin" have asked that these delightful illustrations be made in print form, suitable for framing. It is, therefore, with great pride that we present POOH, HIS ART GALLERY....
In conclusion, if your box has writing on the side, and is blank on the back, and further has all five 12 x 16 original prints, you have the limited edition pooh collection. The firm I am associated with, Bonhams & Butterfields' Entertainment Memorabilia auction can place this item in our next auction at a commission of 45% . Alternatively we can purchase the collection, if it is as detailed, for $370,000.00 USD.
I have posted pictures of a set I have that matches your description. I have Pooh His Art Gallery Watercolors by E. H. Shepard. 6.95 stamped on the side. It also contains all the pictures and we would be willing to sell. Please contact me for further information. [email protected]. Thank you Candie Olsen.
