Ok, here we go lol.. I dont know original owner. Picked up for free on craigslist free section... Woohoo me!! It lookes like gold like a furry swade or some kind of material like that.. Dark yellow, and slightly furry.. Tufted. You can see the pics, so ill give you what you might not see. It has casters.. Steal.. Probably original, because they are dusty. Back and front legs. Front legs are smooth grooved at the top of the foot. .. It is paw foot of some sort, im guessing lion, but it is paw foot style. It looks like mohog.. A light mohogany, or other very hard light brown wood. When i try to make a mark with my fingernail on bottom, it barely barely makes a dent.. I mean its like pressing against a concrete table top.. This stuff is incredibally dense wood. Im not sure birchwood gets that dense, but dont know much about birchwood. It is stained cherry, and has a shiny finish.. Poooooosssibly varnish, but the wood legs have straight saw marks, not round which makes me think it could be some sort of other finish like schalak.. Which also makes me think it could be just regular colonial.. Im not sure if colonial had the empire style, or if it excluded it, and the revival furniture was newly invented, inspiration of colonial style pieces. With that said, the patina looks revival, but have no idea if it had ever been cleaned. I do know it has jute webbing.. And looks like it was either repaired through the bottom, re-sprung, or wholly rehapolstered, and restained the cherry which my guess would make it mohogany (i think revivals in birchwood were typically stained cherry im guessing).. That would also make me think colonial if there are colonial empire styles that is. SOOOO lol with that alll said, i believe it is either some sort of america colonial manufacture, or i could be totally off, and it could be french or something and not empire, but looks similar to empire lol. One person said it was a gentleman's chair from a set... Colonial revival empire set parlor furniture, which would price between 2,700 for the set, and im guessing 500-600 per chair sold singley. Lastly lastly, some very popular manufactures like chippendale or edward hagar made colonial revival pieces or colonial, one of those, and since i have no tags, think it is somewhat possible that it could be apart of thier line. That could make these 12,000 per chair. So, if there are any experts on these kinds of chairs, and recognise this chair, or can determine 100% who manufactured and how much this chair costs would make my day, and week because i have been researching like a nutjob! Lol. I look forward to your thoughts!! Or questions! Arjrpz@ yahoo.com, or 6364898752.

Re: Possible Empire colonial, or colonial revival chair.....
The chair is Empire Revival and is probably maple with a mahogany dye stain. Chairs like this were made into the 1920's, the last peak in demand for this style was during the 1980's, values have declined drastically for chairs like this since then. Currently chairs like this often go at auction for less than $200.00
