Rockford Silver Snuff Box with drugs engraved on it?

Description

My mother passed this to me. It is a very weird container with what looks like pot leafs and other drugs engraved on it. It is rockford silver and i think dated in the 1800's. Engraved with the name Georgie on the top. I am not looking to sell it, but wonder was this type of container common back then?

has XVII on the bottom,a 300 engraved on the bottom along with the number 1177 stamped on the bottom. Engraved with an name on top" Georgie". Domed round container with botanical engravings on the side, every drug imaginable, pot leafs, peyote, etc.
