S. Bent & Bros. Colonial Rocking Chair (5601 333)

Profile picture for user Marcel Francisco
By Marcel Francisco, 24 August, 2015
Description

I came across this piece through picking.  I know some of these rockers were finishes in black by S. Bent & Bros.  However, this beauty was obviously not finished by them!  Light sanding of the under side of the seat revealed the burnt in "S. Bent & Bros." logo and the numbers "5601 333".  The chair is in excellent construction condition.  However, a previous owner butchered it by over spray painting  the black finish.

I'm in the process of restoring the piece back to it's original natural Maple finish in my shop.  Can anyone guide me as to the worth of this pick find?  The last pic shows the sanding I've done so far to bring this back to it's original mapel beauty.

Re: S. Bent & Bros. Colonial Rocking Chair (5601 333)

I as well as family members worked at S.Bent & Brothers in the shop and management for many years. My cousin, now in his seventies worked in engineering. He has many parts hanging around his workshop and we would both be happy to help you in any way we can ! I have also worked at Hartshorns,Eustis, and Standard Chair until their shutdowns. My great grandfather worked at Ramsdell Childrens furniture in the early 1900's.

Good luck Marcel !
