History
This slate was carried by my great Aunt Hat to school when she was a young girl. She was born in 1865 thus carried sometime in the 1870's. The painting on the back was painted at that time by her friend Belle Kingsley. The slate always hung in Great Aunt Hat's bedroom in Westbrook, Maine and then passed down through generations. The slate is in perfect condition. The painting however has a wear mark on it. I know this history because my mother wrote it out in 1977 and taped the paper to the back.
