Description

this is a drop down secretary desk.  the veneer looks thick and tried the denatured alchol test but we are totally new at this.  it has an inlay on the drop down top and on the top rail.  there are some numbers stamped on the sides but the back has been replaced.  on the back it says 1940 and 23 and on the hinge it says pat.something.  the sides look to be carved out of a solid piece of wood.  maybe cherry (for the whole piece)  there is a key hole on the drawer and the dovetails of the drawer look hand made.  I believe the drop down had a keyhole that was replaced with a small knob.  Any information you may have on the period and the price would be greatly appreciated.

History bought it at an estate sale, that's all I know other than researching it, did a denatured alcholol test that I found online and it ate the finish right off which supposedly may mean before 1780, but it ate off other finishes too, just not as much.
Price Paid (If known) $62
