Description

This is a chest that was purchased by my grandmother to house sterling silver. There are no discernible maker's marks on it that I can see. I can't tell what kind of wood it is or even what a suitable title for it is. I've seen other chests that are slightly similar, but none with this exact design. I'd really love to know more about it. Thanks!

It's a American  Empire style buffet and could date to the 1830's, but the style was revived again during the turn of the 19th Century. I can't really tell the period yours was made from the image provided. The Empire style has never been as popular as the Victorian styles that followed, today similar buffets often go for less than $400.00 at auction.
