Re: Thor wringer washing machine

My grandmother had one just like this machine. It was in the kitchen next
to the sink.I remember it so well because I was 12 years old and we lived in Chicago. My Mom and I would go over to Grandmas to help her with the saturday laundry My Mom at the same time had a much newer one.It was green
I believe it was 2 tone. When I got married in 1950 it went with me and for 2 more years it washed diapers for me.Then it quit and by that time the automatic washers came out and we bought a sears.I have been looking for a picture of it but cannot find one.I wish I could so I could show my kids Wilma Callender 76 years old

Re: Thor wringer washing machine

My Grandfather, Raymond J. Hurley, was the President of the Hurley Machine Company that made the Thor. I have only seen a few of these in my lifetime and would love to get my hands on one some day!

Re: Thor wringer washing machine

Hi Kevin, I found your post while researching a warranty certificate I came across for a 1927 Hurley Thor Electric Washer. It was signed by (what looks like) Neil Hurley - president. Is this something you would be interested in? I'll come back to this post to see our reply.

Re: Thor wringer washing machine

I remember those old washing machines. I think my grandmother still has one in the attic. Can you imagine the workout you get by operating that, not to mention no need for replacement appliance parts or electricity.

Re: Thor wringer washing machine

I recently received a Thor Luminoid (pat. 1915) electric (without pullies) wringer washer.  The top & front appear to be copper rather than galvanized steel, and it seems to be in very good condition.  It is for sale - please contact me for photos if interested.
