By caraw87, 14 June, 2012
Description

This chest was given to me as a gift. I know nothing about it and was interested to know if

anyone happened to know the year and approximate value? The Serial # is 651211 and the

style # is 6301-03. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Unknown year Lane Cedar Chest

For the earlier pieces (20s-30s), Serial numbers started out being 6 digits read from left to right.

Later, Lane added a 7th digit.

The serial #, read backwards, will tell you the month, day and year it was manufactured.

If it has 7 numbers, the last number indicates which plant it was made at.  Example

2235150  = 2 / 23 / 51 / 50  shows it was made on May 15, 1932 at plant #2.  This number is found on the outside bottom of the chest.  You will also find the model # on the bottom.

Your lovely piece was made November 21, 1956
