I have three lace and satin pillow covers which were brought home from France by my grandfather after serving in WWI in 1919. The first pillow cover is light pink silk with a cream colored lace border. In the center of the pink area "1919 Souvenir de France" is embroidered. The second pillow cover is square, silk and says "Souvenir de France" across the center. There is also a U.S. and France flag, a picture of the ship "USS Leviathan", "the ship that brought me home" and " in memory of my service in France with the US Army". The third pillow cover is satin with a cream colored lace fringe border with the word "Mother" across the center. It also has a photo of Army troops marching with the words "On the Hike". Near the top of the pillow cover is written " East or west it's home that's best-the saying's surely true. For when my thoughts would seek their rest, they all come home-to you".
