Description

Bottle found in vacant house we just bought long with several old bottles.  Has a seal on the front Johannis-Brunnen on top of seal Prov. Nassau on the bottom. Middle of seal is a B with a crown on it.  Back has the imprint of No 9. No markings on the bottom.  Can't find anything online...period.  Some of the other bottles date back to 1885 so I was hoping this would be old as well.

It's a stoneware Gin bottle. Probably Victorian i.e. 19th Century so 1885 would make sense. You haven't said where your vacant house is. I believe Brunnen is part of Nassau (the capital city of the Bahamas). Nassau is on New Providence Island hence the Prov. Nassau.

I have a bottle almost exactly like yours.  The only difference I believe is that where yours says No. 9, mine says No. 2.  My husband's grandmother gave it to us and her husband found it on their home property in Richland, Mississippi many years ago.  Have you been able to locate any further information on your bottle?

My father found a bottle with the same markings (crown with a B) 56 years ago while working for a dredging company  in the port of Wilmington Delaware. I have always wondered what this ceramic bottle was. I also saw one on display just like it at Ft. Pulaski near Savannah. I'm so glad to get any infromation on it.  Thanks
