Cloisonne Dragon Vase

By texcan5845, 12 February, 2010
Description

Usually not into anything so bold in color, but this double dragon vase just caught my attention, price was right so had to buy it. Now am contemplating turning it into lamp, and wanted to make sure am not ruining something that should be left alone. From the litle research I have done I gather this is more than not made in China because of the 5 finger/claws vs the three usually associated with Japanese dragons. The 1200Y (yen) original price and the numbers 426/266 (any significance?). The top of the vase, both interior and exterior has an arabic influence as does the the bottom part where it meets the base. The background is gold wiring shaped in florals filled with cobalt blue and black edged, there is also some burts within the blue that looks like crystalline glaze would in pottery. I tried to capture these in the pics, but could not get them to show. If possible would like to know if the origin is China or Japan and the dollar value. One more thing I must mention is that the gold trim around the base and neck, where it meets the body does not appear to be brass. It is not as shiny like brass tends to be, has a more brushed gold appearance. The bottom has no marks other than the price and the numbers mentioned above, the color is a dark turqoise. My apologies for the flash on the pics. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
