Re: Painting of girl with dog from Luncheon of the Boating Party

Did Renoir ever paint single scenes from a larger painting of his and do it differently?

Not this differently, I'm afraid. Copying Renoir is a very common pastime for amateur painters, and what you have is an amateur copy of part of a famous Renoir painting. It has some decorative value if you like that style but I think that's about where it ends.

I am not an expert on paintings by any means, wondering if you think this is a poor quality painting. I guess I would like to know if you have a background in art too.

Thanks.

Yes, I do have a background in art. I can't comment on whether this is a poor quality painting, as I don't have it in my hands to examine. A basic comparison with the original suggests that this is a reasonably competent amateur copy of Renoir's work.

Well it's worth at least five dollars ;~). It's likely a piece by a high school Art student, it used to be part of the curriculum in some places to paint a copy of a work by a noted artist. Values for these depend a great deal on what two people are willing to pay at auction.
