Description Unique Nippon vase, 6.25" H by 4.25" at its widest point with 2.5" high side handles. Stylized center flower with stem and leaves on one side, double flower with stem and leaves on other side. The colors on the vase are natural, blues, browns, greens,and pale yellow. The design is outlined in raised brown. The handles have a raised brown design with raised dots with a dot of yellow and 2 dots of blue in the design at the top of the each handle. The markings on the bottom of the vase are green, with letters saying hand painted Nippon around a wreath with an M in the center. I would appreciate any information you can give me about this vase along with the value. In all of my research online I have never seen another Nippon vase that looks like this.

Re: Antique Nippon Vase

I have been doing more research on my Nippon vase and following is what I have learned. Nippon means Japan and all ceramic/porcelain items that were made from 1890 to 1921 were done by Morimura Brothers. After this time the US required items from Japan to be marked Japan or Made in Japan. Also I believe the raised details on this vase are considered Moriage and that the style is either art deco or nouveau which would date it between 1915 to 1921. As I continued to do more research I became concerned that my vase may not be antique because there are so many reproductions and knock offs. I came across a site that showed real vs. fake Nippon back stamp marks and described how to tell real from fake. See site address below. I was relieved to find out that my marks are authentic antique Nippon. I still have not come across any other vase that is close to my style, so I still need to find out the value of this for my records to give to my son when I pass this onto him. Regardless of the mark, looks like a fake to me, it doesn't look "right", I could be wrong, but I've been in the antique business since 1961.
