These two pieces of furniture (parlor bench and matching chair), are unknown to us the style or make or origin of them. It appears to be mahogany wood. Both come with leather covered cushions as shown in the photos.
Both pieces have wooden carved angels on the arms with wings flowing back into the arm of the bench and chair, as shown in the photo's. Both pieces of furniture have what we assume may be claw feet on the front legs. Neither piece is on rollers/casters.
The wood appears to be bent and not cut to form the arches.
We have done a lot of online research and have found nothing that resembles the pieces. Louis the XV has the winged Dragon and winged Lion but not the winged angels.
As far as my amatuer eye can tell these are not put together with dowels..they have wood slots that slips into the adjoining pieces of wood, but I do not know what that's called in "antique" terms.
The only "non" original piece on the furniture is the bottom seat piece of wood on the parlor bench. That was damaged in a flood, and replaced over 50 yrs ago. The seat bottom of the chair is original. The leather cushions are in rough shape due to drying out over the years and the seams are coming unsewn, but are the original leather coverings. The cushion inside the leather is in good condition. The matching side chair is in much better condition than the parlor bench. In my personal opinion the Parlor Bench is in Fair to Good condition, and the matching chair is in Good condition.
We are requesting an indentification and appraisal of these two pieces. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Angelface

Re: Wooden Carved Angel Parlor Bench and Chair
I am curious to know if you have had an appraisal on this item? I am looking at buying a set that looks just like this but in black with black leather cusions and they are asking $1500.00. This is also the appraised price that they received.
Thank you

Re: Wooden Carved Angel Parlor Bench and Chair
when you are doing your research, look up the key words Cherub instead of angel. The time period that I found on this item is 1900.
Re: Wooden Carved Angel Parlor Bench and Chair
I have a chair that is identical to this. I cannot find any information on it.
Re: Wooden Carved Angel Parlor Bench and Chair
Actually mine is a rocking chair.
Re: Wooden Carved Angel Parlor Bench and Chair
It's in the Empire Revival style, the busts on the armrests are called "Caryatids" if female and "Alantes" if male. These date from the turn of the 19th century through to World War One. A parlor set of three would go for about $950.00 at auction if in very good condition.
