Elgin pocket watch w/ornate Dueber case.

By kelken67, 19 October, 2012
Description

This item is an Elgin pocket watch with an ornate Dueber case that runs. I would like to sell it but I need a better idea of its value. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

On the outside of the watch case is raised, flowering vine design. Engraved on the inside front cover is the serial #5040925. On the inside of the back cover is a paper insert that basically reads as follows, starting at the top: The Dueber Watch Case Manufacturing Co.; This will certify that the accompanying 14 karat special gold filled watch case No(here there is a line where the above serial # is handwritten) was manufactured by us with the same care as we use in the manufacture of solid gold watch cases and is guaranteed to wear for 25 years(a picture of what appears to be two factories is in the middle of this section).; The Dueber Watch Case Manufacturing Co.; John C. Dueber, Pres't. There is a 3rd cover directly over the movement with the above noted serial # engraved on it and a rayed pattern inside.

Engraved on the movement are the following: the serial #12595433, Elgin Nat'l Watch Co., U.S.A., 17 Jewel, Safety Pinion, FAST, SLOW, a leafy branch, and some flourishes.

Lastly, on the face of the pocket watch are the following (all numbers are black Arabic numerals: around the rim are the minutes in increments of 5, circling inside the minutes are the hours 1-12, next is a light blue circle with a silver design and ELGIN printed inside of it, at the center gold hour and minute hands are attatched, a small circle at the 6 o' clock position has the seconds in increments of 10 and another gold hand attatched at its center.  There is no glass covering the face.

Re: Elgin pocket watch w/ornate Dueber case.

I collect pocket watches, shoot me an email at [email protected] and I'll tell you all about your watch. I'll have to dig up some old databases so it could be a few days.
