Description
Antique Carnival Glass bowl or dish. There's no manufacturer's mark anywhere on the piece. It has a pattern with grapes, grape leaves and vines. The edges are ruffled. It is 8" in diameter and about 3" tall at the highest point. It was my grandmother's and it is very old. If someone could help identify the pattern and manufacturer, age and value it would be wonderful to know. Thank you in advance!
Re: Carnival Glass Dish
Hi Sierras247,
I believe what you have is a Imperial Glass Co. "Grape" patterned, Carnival glass ruffled edge bowl 8-9" in either a 1910- 30 marigold color, on clear glass, or the vintage 60'-70's reproduction of the old molds that used a similar looking color as "Marigold" but called it "Rubigold", both colors are very similar and both original and reproduction will look almost the same if not exactly identical cause they shared the same molds, Imperial originally made bowls/plates 8-9" that look very much like the one in your picture but I don't know if they reproduced that exact shape, with the ruffled edges. The best way to know is to find if they reproduced this piece. The color of marigold, and rubigold varies from dark to light..but it seems like it has a bit of "red oil spill" irridescents in it that point it toward being vintage. Early pieces of Carnival Glass iridescents doesn't have all those wild "oil spill" rainbow looking colors in it, with super shiny irridescents. But the bottom isn't sprayed and thats sometimes an indication of an original piece. I believe this to be original the piece is nice, with this piece it really comes down to the condition and iridescents, and this is nice. Probably valued around $25. Its very good to begin a collection or complete someones collection/tableset. Hope I helped, im not claiming to be a pro.
Re: Carnival Glass Dish
Thank you for your input! It is so difficult to track these things down because there's an overwhelming number of different manufacturers and even more designs.
You are correct that it is an old piece since it had to have been created long ago considering it was my late grandmother's and she had it forever along with other antiques.
In case it helps, when a UV light is put on it, parts of it fluoresce the same way that vaseline glass does. She had pieces of that as well.
Again, I appreciate your help!
