Antique chest of drawers

By cmark59, 26 March, 2013
Description

Hello!  I'm submitting this for a friend.  It is a beautiful chest that was handed down from her parents.  She doesn't know much about it, except that her dad said it was very old.  The pictures I have are going to be the only real clues as to it's origin, as I'm unable to locate any writing on the piece except for the number G4684 stamped onto the right rear upright.  it also has metal glides for the bottom of the drawers to slide on. There is a name stamped on the metal glides that starts with "Ap..." The back is solid wood and held on with screws.

Re: Antique chest of drawers

It's not that old, unlikely it predates the mid 1920's, It looks older than what it is because it's patterned after American Federal style furniture made 1780-1820. Ones like this go at auction for less than $300.00.

Re: Antique chest of drawers

Not much else to tell, most furniture makers produced similar lines in Colonial, Federal and Empire Revival styles during the 20's and 30's. Without any markings it's pretty much guess work to determine a maker.

Re: Antique chest of drawers

Thank you, Lovejoy, for the info on this chest of drawers and also the matching desk.  You helped my friend determine an asking price for both pieces!
