I have this cute little plate which appears to be quite old. It has no maker's marks and just has "The Brownies" printed across it. Can anyone tell me anthing about it? How old it is, is it worth anything? Many thanks!
The Brownies is a series of publications by Canadianillustrator and authorPalmer Cox, based on names and elements from Celtic mythology and traditional highland Scottish stories told to Cox by his grandmother. Illustrations with verse aimed at children, The Brownies was published in magazines and books during the late 19th century and early 20th century. The Brownie characters became famous in their day, and at the peak of their popularity were a pioneering name brand within merchandising.
1800's early 1900's... worth? Asking price for cup and saucer around $145.00 perfect condition.
I see asking prices all over the place. seems if you can find the right person you can get more money for it.. But do I see a crack in yours?
What you have going for you, that counters the crack and condition, is the Name in the middle of the plate.. makes it real easy to display in a frame.... Good luck.
many thanks - yes, it does have a little crack. I live in New Zealand and couldn't find any info on any websites here about "The Brownies" so I do appreciate you taking the time to tell me what you know.
Re: "The Brownies"
any help would be greatly appreciated
