Unusual dropfront desk with side doors and mirror

By cgbluebird, 27 March, 2014
Description

I have no idea how old the desk is, and I cannot find any manufacturer's mark.  Overall it is in good condition, very sturdy and with only a couple of cracks.  However the drawer rails and the two small trim pieces on the top need repair.  The finish is aged, but the color is better than it appears in the pictures.  The mirror is in excellent condition--even and clear.

Re: Unusual dropfront desk with side doors and mirror

It dates from the turn of the 19th Century, similar desks can be found in old Montgomery-Ward catalogs Circa 1898. At the time they were sold as being in the "Fancy French" style a varaition on the 18th Century French Provincial style. Like most made during this period it's constructed of oak, we'd retail one like this for about $600.00.
