Queen Anne Oil Lamp

By groovybrian, 30 January, 2015
Description

Hi,

I was told this is an antique. The oil lamp's metal part where the fuse pops up to light has some initials.

1. What do I call this metal part? 2. one side has "QUEEN" I think. "ANNE" is on the other side3. What kind of metal is this?4. The base of the lamp is heavy, but the part that covers the flame is very light. This makes me think they may not go together. I know it wouldn't be as heavy, but it just doesn't seem like similar quality. Am I wrong?5. I'd like to get a much better description of this including when/where made and its value. Thanks much! Brian

Re: Queen Anne Oil Lamp

Lamps of this type tend to be late 19th century items, they were mass produced from the late 1860's through 1900. The glass chimneys on them were considered replaceable items and were always of much lighter construction than the lamp base. Values for these lamps tend to be modest, they did have a run up in value during the 1980's, but demand for them has dropped considerably since then, most today sell for less than $50.00 at auction.
