Vintage card catalog?

By katyfab, 26 July, 2015
Description

I bought this and was told it was a "mail cabinet" but there is no way...it has 20 drawers all which have a hole in the front of them. It seems pretty old and has no identifying labels or company names, looks like a name plate was removed from the top front of chest...the legs at the feet have brass or metal and the size of the drawers are 12" wide, 3" height and 15" deep, I have been Googling forever and cannot find 1 pic that looks like my piece!!! I just want to know if it is valuable to not chalk paint it, it has some damage and staining from glitter nail polish and I think a red wax candle....boo. It possibly could be the brand Gaylord Brothers but I am not positive.

Re: Vintage card catalog?

These were generally used in a libraries to store information regarding the books in inventory or incommercial offices  for customer/client information. They were a hot item in the 1980's, used to contain collections of shells, butterflies, coins and medals.

Re: Vintage card catalog?

Why does each drawer have a hole in it? What is that used for? And mine seems older than 36 years old...imo but I am no professional?
