Ruby souvenir glass

By foxfire, 24 October, 2009
Description

Appears to be souvenir glass from the 1909 Minnesota State Fair. It looks to me to be etched writing. The writing says "T.V. Lichtstinn" and "Minnesota Stae Fair 1909".

I'd be interested in knowing if this is signed by the painter or perhaps it's the name of the person who bought it?
Also, is the ruby red a paint? It appears to be lightly scratched off a couple of places.
I'd even be interested in a little history of this type of souvenir - was it common in the early 1900's?

Re: Ruby souvenir glass

I have one exactly like this......The etching on mine is B.M. and 1902 is the date.  I believe the BM is my great grandmothers initials.  My Mom gave it to me after my Aunt passed away.  Unfortunatley, my mother was the youngest of the family and barely remembers her grandmother and knew nothing about the glass.

I would be interested to know more about this myself.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
