Were you ever able to find anything out about this piece?

I just bought one just like it at a yard sale, paid $90 for it not in as good of condition of this one.  Any idea what true value is?

What you paid is about what examples like this one go for at auction or yardsales. Chests like this were made in huge numbers, of which most seem to have survived to the present day.
