It's actually a washstand, probably had a harp shape towel bar mounted to the top at one time. Most of these date from the turn of the 19th Century until the 1920's when a great many homes and apartments had limited running water and bathroom facilities. Values peaked for these back in the late 1980's and since has declined dramatically. many at auction now sell for under $100.00.
