Rare "One of a Kind" Uchikake- Japanese Kimono

By jrockdoll, 13 June, 2012
Description

I bought this Uchikake about 7 years ago from an Osaka flea market. It's said to be from between edo-showa but because of it's eletrical components is best to asume it's from Showa. This Uchikake is amazingly detailed with bright, lush colors and gorgeously embroided with peacocks and peacock feathers. The best part about this facinating piece is that it was made with electricity in order to light up! It has a small socket on the side next to the sleeve where you can plug it in in order to turn it on. The socket is connected to a small electrical box sewn within the garment with small white and red wires coming from the other end of the box and spreading through out the garment itself. I have come to find out that this piece is so rare that it's likely to be one of a kind. I have come across only ONE other uchikake with a likeness of this piece but mine is still known to be the only uchikake with an electrical unit!
