I have two Dickens’ Works hardback books in what I think are good or better condition: "Nicholas Nickleby" & "Christmas Stories & Reprinted Pieces". I can’t find a print date anywhere inside these books. I would like to know their print date, if they’re 1st edition & an estimated value. On the outside binding it says “THE MIDLAND BOOK CO” & on the inside title page it says “MIDLAND PUBLISHING COMPANY” (out of Chicago). Also one of the inside pages it says “THE MERSHON COMPANY PRESS, RAHWAY, N.J.” The only info. I could find online about these books has to do with the printer: “The Mershon Company” was mainly a printer until the early 1890’s & then also became a publisher & that in 1905 the co. briefly changed their name to Stitt Publishing Company & then back to Mershon for a year until the company was sold to a Chatterton-Peck. To me that means the book can’t be any older than 1906. I appreciate any and all help with this!
