Deeply Carved- Brass Bound- Chinese Chest (?)

I know very little about the history of this chest. My foster Mom gave it to me and said she recalled having it appraised 30 or so years ago and thought she remembered it to be pretty valuable. Unfortunately, my Mom's memory has been not the greatest these last few years and I'm unable to find any other information on this. I'm hoping to find an idea of how much it's worth.
