The lid shows "Friendship Treasure Chest" and a picture on the top right of the Trinidad Ship. The inside of the lid has "World Friendship among Children Good-will Greetings". The lid is weighted.
This box can be locked; however, we don't have a key.
The front of the box has a map showing George Washington in America, the Pacific Ocean and Jose Rizal in the Phillipines. Pictured in the ocean is a sea serpent, a whale blowing and a treasure ship sailing toward the Phillipines.
The back of the box has a map showing Christopher Columbus in America and his three ships, the Pacific Ocean and Ferdinand Magellan in the Phillipine Islands and his three ships.
On one end of the box has the globe showing US, Canada, Greenland, Brazil and Argentina. On the left bottom of the globe is Old Man Winter blowing and on the right bottom of the globe is Davy Jones.
The other end also shows Old Man Winter and Davy Jones. The globe shows Europe, Siberia, China, Arabia, South Africa, Australia etc.
This is a well made piece with brass handles. The colors are good; however, there are some scratches on the lid and the back of the box.
We would like to know the age, value and what this was used for.
Thanks
