I have this nice piece of pottery with hatching along the edges. The symbols on the front at first I thought they were swallows but now I'm not sure. There is what appears to be an impressed mark on back. Does anyone know when its from or what type of piece it is?

I found a picture of a monkey brushing his teeth at goodwill and purchased it.  behind this picture was a painting that appears to be named "October Moment" signed "Hirss 59" in pencil.  I did some googling and found a little info on Ivar Hirss but not a lot.  I am curious if this is worth anything more than a neat story.

This is a paperweight my mom has had for over 30yrs...she got it at a tag sale in n.y. in the 1970's...It has what looks like an initial in one of the millifoiri...cant tell if it's a F, 3, T, or a J....the pontil marks are still on the back...it does have a chip on one edge...can you give me an appraisal ......it would make her very happy...she does want to sell it...
